Main Vacation Attractions, Activities and Spots In Hawaii
Hawaii is mostly thought of as a tropical heaven for beach goers. C’mon, admit it, the whole place is a huge island with different heart throbbing locations. But then again, there’re more to Hawaii than it meets the eye. For that, you’re going to see and feel the Hawaiian atmosphere from a whole new perspective, from the perspective of a person who’s not your average beach and booty lover.
Probably you didn’t know that Hawaii is also known for its diverse ecology. It doesn’t take a man or a family of eager vacationers to stumble upon regions rich with coral reefs, a terrain that resembles desert, small valleys, mountains with REAL snow on them!, volcanoes, waterfalls; a gift of nature, and canyons.
Oh, there’re rain forests in Hawaii too, but they take a genuine tourist to find them. If you’re planning to go arm in arm with your loved one to the typical Hawaiian resorts that are made up for savvy hotels and neat parking lots, chances are you’re going to miss up on the real deal. Yes, you’ll have a couple of nice memories to share, while the real memories lie besides those waterfalls, canyons, reefs and God knows what else.
Here’s to all those people who need a few tips in order to feel the real Hawaiian experience:
- The Main Activities:
o Known as the Big Island, it’s the area that’s thought of as a great vacation spot for families. Big Island is stranded away from Honolulu and Waikiki; these are the main areas that most of the tourists go to.
o If you want to stay close to the resorts, Kona is the place where it happens.
o Interested in really knowing what makes Big Island such a huge attraction, go and rent a car. After that, it’s time for you to take a guided tour across the valleys, dolphin coves and so much more stuff. Specifically speaking, it’s called The Dolphin Quest and it’s where most families go for sightseeing and a little bit of fun. Even if you have 5 year old minor in your group, he/she’ll love standing atop a dolphin. Don’t worry, the trainers over there really know what their business.
- Kauai – The Unforgettable Garden Isle:
o People call it the Garden Isle, Kauai famous for lush green patches of land, flowers and pearl white sand. Newly wed couples find it to be a great spot for spending their honeymoon days. But also at the same time, families can enjoy there too.
o When Mark Twain called Waimea Canyon the Grand Canyon, he wasn’t kidding. In Kauai, Waimea Canyon offers an approximate depth of 3,600+ feet, 10 miles length and a width of 2 miles. There are all sorts of reds, greens and browns in there.
- Maui – The Valley Isle:
o Next we move to Maui, where there’s the Valley Isle, the upcountry, the Iao Valley and Hana. The Road to Hana itself is laid straight with one of a kind experience as well.
o Whether you’re a family or a standalone kind of tourist, when you’re in Maui, start off with Lahaina. It’s the oldest towns in the Hawaiian Kingdom that dates back to the 1820’s. Historians and guides over there will fill you in on the legends associated with Lahaina. Fact has it that during the 1840’s, the town was more of a whaling port for the Pacific riders. Today, the area has been transformed into a mecca of shops.
o Well, some people miss the old Hawaiian culture so they have the art galleries at their disposal. Also, the Baldwin Home and Banyan Tree are a must see for interested peeps.
- The Natural Wonders of Hawaii:
o Okay, if you’re not into visiting the islands and towns, the natural wonders are there for you to look at. They change their state every single day. Be as much skeptic as you want but you won’t be able to take your eyes off the rain, the ocean and the ancient Pele Fire, which isn’t there anymore. P.S.: It takes a little bit of reading and imagination to get things going in your brain.
o While you’re at it, the Volcanoes National Park is a hot spot for visitors like you to see. Most of the lava in there has turned charcoal black, which is a clear evidence of the Hawaiian Volcanic history.
o A helicopter ride will also reveal tons of spots for camera shots, active flows of nature and etc. You can take a helicopter tour from Hilo International Airport.
